Sunday December 7, 2025 – 4pm West Cabarrus High School Auditorium

Welcome Colin Whiteley as the new director for Piedmont Community Band!

Mr. Colin Whiteley grew up in Concord, NC where he attended Jay M. Robinson High School under the direction of Blair Smith and Drew Carter. He then went on to attend Western Carolina University where he received a Bachelor Degree in Music Education. He graduated with honors in 2021, after studying under great conductors and educators such as Margaret Underwood, John West, and David Starnes. Currently, Mr. Whiteley is the proud Band Director at Mt. Holly Middle School in Gaston County.

Colin began his teaching career in 2021 at East Wilkes High School and East Wilkes Middle School. It was there that he led the high school Wind Ensemble to earn their school’s first ever Superior Rating at the NCBA Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) Festival. In 2022, Whiteley was appointed as the Director & Conductor of the Yadkin Valley Community Band. Under his direction, the group made vast improvements, grew in membership, and produced several yearly concerts and clinics throughout the Yadkin Valley foothills of NC. It was at the 2024 YVCB Spring Concert Band Clinic where Mr. Whiteley received a workshop lesson from respected composer and conductor Jack Stamp. In Mr. Stamps words, “Colin is a truly talented and dynamic conductor. He conducts as though he has 20 years of experience under his baton.” Whiteley is also a proud member of the Elkin Big Band where he fills the role of Tenor Sax 2 and occasional Guest Vocalist.

Finally, Mr. Whiteley is thrilled to have been announced as the Conductor of the wonderful Piedmont Community Band. He is passionate and excited about community-made music and can’t wait to lead the band through many years of continued growth and passionate music-making!
